Most casino managers were promoted because they were excellent dealers, croupiers or pit inspectors. Very few were ever taught to run a gaming floor, a cage or a compliance file. The Casino Management diploma exists to close that gap: it takes people who already understand table games and equips them with the leadership, DIA regulatory, cage-finance and analytical discipline required to run a pit, a casino department or an entire property.

The curriculum is organised around the five accountabilities of a casino operating manager — people, table game procedure, casino compliance, commercial performance and guest and VIP experience. Each is taught through structured teaching, case analysis drawn from real incidents at partner casino resorts, and applied assignments participants complete on their own gaming floor between sessions.

The programme is deliberately part-time and blended. Participants remain in post on the casino floor throughout, which allows every module to be applied immediately to real pits, real cage counts and real surveillance liaison rather than hypothetical scenarios. A single residential week at the Valletta campus brings the cohort together for pit leadership simulation, host-negotiation practice and the executive development stream.

Assessment reflects the reality of casino floor leadership. Participants submit an operational improvement project on their own pit or department — table utilisation, cage float control, Host Responsibility intervention rates or surveillance escalation design — defended before a panel that includes an external examiner from the partner casino operator network. Several of these projects are adopted permanently by the sponsoring casino resort each year.

Lead a shift, pit or casino department using documented systems for table scheduling, escalation, briefing and performance review.

Interpret and apply the DIA casino licensing conditions and regulatory obligations that govern a licensed New Zealand casino operation, including AML/CFT and Host Responsibility frameworks.

Read and act on operational casino financial data, including drop, hold percentage, table games margin, cage variance, labour cost and departmental contribution.

Design and defend a casino operational improvement project with a measurable business case.

02Learning objectives

What a graduate of this pathway can do on day one

Objectives are written as observable behaviours, not aspirations. Each one is assessed against a published rubric before certification is issued.

  1. 01

Lead a shift, pit or casino department using documented systems for table scheduling, escalation, briefing and performance review.

  2. 02

Interpret and apply the DIA casino licensing conditions and regulatory obligations that govern a licensed New Zealand casino operation, including AML/CFT and Host Responsibility frameworks.

  3. 03

Read and act on operational casino financial data, including drop, hold percentage, table games margin, cage variance, labour cost and departmental contribution.

  4. 04

Design and defend a casino operational improvement project with a measurable business case.

  5. 05

Manage dealer and croupier performance, conduct and development conversations to a consistent and defensible standard.

  6. 06

Translate guest and VIP casino salon experience data into specific pit and cage operational change rather than general exhortation.

03Who it is for

Built for four distinct starting points

Admissions interviews place every applicant into one of these groups, and the entry module is adjusted accordingly. Nobody repeats material they already command, and nobody is pushed past a standard they have not yet reached.

01

Newly promoted pit supervisors

Inspectors and pit supervisors in their first twelve months of formal responsibility for a bank of casino tables who need structure rather than instinct.

02

Casino department managers

Managers accountable for a casino department's compliance, cage integrity and service performance who want a defensible operating framework.

03

Succession candidates

High-potential dealers and croupiers identified by a casino operator for future pit and property leadership, usually sponsored through the corporate route.

04

Cross-sector managers

Experienced hospitality or retail managers entering casino operations who need the DIA regulatory and gaming-floor procedural context quickly.

04Curriculum

Module by module

Every module carries documented contact hours, a written standard and its own assessment gate. Modules must be passed in sequence.

05Outcomes

What you leave with

  • Runs a pit, cage or casino department from documented systems rather than improvisation, with auditable records at every step.
  • Identifies AML/CFT and Host Responsibility compliance exposure proactively and can evidence the controls in place to the DIA or an internal auditor.
  • Interprets casino departmental financial performance — drop, hold and cage variance — and explains it in operational rather than accounting language.
  • Constructs dealer and croupier schedules that balance labour cost against pit service quality using forecast data rather than habit.
  • Handles conduct, performance and grievance conversations with table games staff to a consistent, defensible standard.
  • Has delivered and defended a measurable operational improvement on a live casino gaming floor.
06Entry expectations

What we ask you to bring

A minimum of twelve months' operational experience in a licensed casino or comparable regulated gaming environment.

Current or imminent responsibility for dealers, croupiers or cage staff, since several assignments must be applied to a live pit team.

Working English at B2 level or above for case analysis, written assignments and panel defence.

Employer confirmation of access to casino operational data required for the improvement project, or an academy-supplied case alternative.

Numerical confidence sufficient for the cage-finance modules; a preparatory financial primer is provided before week one.

Availability for the residential week and for approximately six hours of independent study per week.

07Assessment model

How performance is measured

Assessment is continuous and weighted. A single strong day cannot compensate for an unstable standard across the programme.

30%

Module assignments

Eight applied assignments completed on the participant's own casino floor or in the cage and assessed against a published rubric by faculty.

20%

Case analysis examinations

Two timed case examinations covering AML/CFT and Host Responsibility compliance judgement and cage/casino operational finance, drawn from anonymised partner casino incidents.

15%

Residential simulation

Observed performance in pit leadership and casino crisis simulations during the residential week, scored by two members of the executive faculty.

35%

Improvement project and defence

A written business case with measured casino floor results, defended before a panel including an external examiner from the partner casino operator network.

08Certification

A credential employers can verify

Every certificate carries a unique registry number, verifiable by any employer through the Solvarienne graduate registry for the lifetime of the credential.

  1. 1

Diploma in Casino Management issued by the Mirevontis Academic Board and recorded in the public registry.

  2. 2

DIA compliance and Host Responsibility module certificates that can be presented separately to a regulator or auditor.

  3. 3

Written project report and panel commentary, frequently used by participants in internal casino promotion cases.

  4. 4

Eligibility for the Mirevontis executive alumni network and its quarterly casino leadership forums.

  5. 5

Recognition by 190 partner casino operators, of which 58 list the diploma in their internal pit-to-management promotion criteria.

13 / Graduate story

A dealer rota redesign that returned €310,000 in annualised labour cost

Daniel Sørensen joined the diploma as a casino floor manager frustrated by weekend pit overstaffing that nobody could quite explain. His improvement project rebuilt demand forecasting for the casino property using two years of table utilisation data, redesigned the dealer rotation pattern around genuine gaming floor demand curves rather than inherited habit, and introduced a weekly cage and pit variance review with department heads. The redesign returned €310,000 in annualised labour cost without a measurable fall in guest service scores, was adopted across two sister casino properties within a year, and formed the basis of his promotion to casino operations director.

Daniel Sørensen · Casino Operations Director, Copenhagen

I stopped firefighting on the pit floor. The scheduling and escalation systems alone changed my working week beyond recognition.

Tomas BrennerCasino Floor Manager, Prague

The AML/CFT and Host Responsibility module made me genuinely useful in a DIA-style audit for the first time in my career.

Iris KallioCasino Compliance Officer, Helsinki

My cage improvement project was adopted across three casino properties. It is now the reason I sit in the operations directors' meeting.
